If you want to create a new beginning—a life of purpose and fulfillment—the most important factor, by far, is to have a growth mindset.
People with a growth mindset believe in abundance and are dedicated to expanding their knowledge while constantly seeking self-improvement. They’re on a continuous lifetime journey, enjoying the thrill and fulfillment of consistent challenge and improvement.
We call it “Climbing up a mountain that has no top.”
We introduce the Assess Your Mindset© exercise as the first of this series because a person with the opposite viewpoint—a fixed scarcity mindset—will likely not find value in the concept of Relevant Living™.
Plus, proactively creating a life of purpose and fulfillment requires commitment and effort. These are concepts that people with a fixed mindset find difficult to embrace. In essence, they see life being, “As it is,” with little opportunity to change their circumstances.
High Achievers Almost Always Have a Growth Mindset
It’s unlikely for an entrepreneur, executive, or other professional to be high-performing and reach the apex of their craft with a fixed mindset. For them, this exercise will provide validation.
For people who work hard to stay out of fixed mindset traps, this exercise will be a useful reminder of the positive attributes of a growth mindset.
The 6 Beliefs of a Growth Mindset
Here are the six beliefs of a person with a growth mindset:
“There are no limits to a person’s intelligence.”
“I embrace challenges. Bring it on!”
“Roadblock, what roadblock? Let’s figure it out!”
“Giftedness is hollow without effort.”
“Give your feedback to me straight—I can take it.”
“Congratulations to you, my competitor! The pie’s big enough for all of us to be wildly successful!”
Do these statements resonate with you?
Do you believe them 100 percent of the time, or do you sometimes find yourself caught with a fixed mindset?
What are your takeaways when you lose a competition or experience a setback?
One challenge for those with a growth mindset is to consistently back it up with their ACTIONS!
